Manicaland and Masvingo come alive as ZICOMO rolls Constitutional Hubs.

The National Association of Youth Organizations (NAYO) through the Zimbabwe Constitutional Movement (ZICOMO) initiative held Constitutional Hubs in Masvingo and Mutare, aimed at promoting civic education and constitutional awareness among young people. The events brought together youth leaders, activists, and community members to discuss the importance of constitutional rights and democratic participation. The Hubs are aimed at raising awareness and educating participants on the provisions of the Zimbabwean Constitution and their rights as citizens, encouraging engagement, and inspiring young people to actively participate in civic duties and contribute to democratic processes. Moreso, fostering dialogue by providing a platform for open discussions about the challenges and opportunities facing youth in the context of constitutional rights and the need to foster constitutionalism in the community and at the national level. Through the meetings, young people were empowered with nuggets on constitutionalism, which will help to develop young community leaders who participate in growing citizen knowledge. The hubs discussed provisions within the constitution through a peer-to-peer approach. The youth discussed specific sections from sections 13, 14, 20, 22, 24, 29, 55, 72, 74, 76, and 77. ‘The ZICOMO initiative seeks to foster a culture of the rule of law and respect for and implementation of the Constitution and the rights therein. Zimbabwe as a Constitutional Democracy; can broadly be defined as a system of governance under which the power of the government is limited by the rule of law. Constitutionalism recognizes the need to curtail the power of other arms of government to protect the rights of groups and individuals. Zimbabwe’s constitution is the foundational document for how the government is structured and functions and is the standard by which all laws, policies, and practices are measured to sustain a free, democratic society.’
